Server Performance

The best way to improve performance of your networked database solution is to enhance your server. In order of priority you'll want the following.

1. The fastest hard drive you can afford*
2. The fastest CPU you can afford (dual CPUs aren't used by FileMaker Server currently) ALTHOUGH - you can dedicate one CPU to FileMaker and the other to the OS.
3. An optimized NIC (Network Interface Card). The better the bandwidth the better the performance

  • SCSI RAID systems used to be the fastest options available. But with today's front side bus speeds and higher on-disk caches you can get similar performance from many IDE alternatives - such as Serial ATA.
